RAW Talent: Klings & Things Photography Selected for RAW St. Louis Awakening Showcase
Feb. 10, 2014, St. Louis, MO–Christina Kling-Garrett, owner of St. Louis-based fine art photography store Klings & Things Photography, has been selected as one of 30 artists to be showcased in RAW St. Louis’ upcoming event, AWAKENING, on Thursday, February 27 8:00 pm-midnight at The Coliseum on Washington Ave. RAW is an international independent arts organization that hosts monthly showcases around the globe to spotlight independent talent in firm, fashion, music, art, and photography.
Kling-Garrett was chosen from among hundreds of entrants and will join other local independent artists. She will display 10 pieces; all of her display pieces will be for sale during the event and attendees will be able to place orders for anything in her broader collection that evening.
“I’m beyond excited about this event and this organization, and completely humbled to be part of the showcase, said Kling-Garrett. “I became acquainted with RAW when they hosted their first multi-faceted artistic showcase in St. Louis around two years ago. I was immediately drawn to their mission—to provide indie artists with tools, resources, and exposure.”
Selection to participate in the showcase is only the beginning. After the pool of artists is significantly narrowed by popular vote and industry critique, one winner from every city in every category goes on to be judged by the RAW panel of industry experts in each field. Those winners receive significant boosts to their careers including gallery and store placements, networking opportunities, and more.
As a nod to the spirit of RAW, Kling-Garrett will include several of her first photographs in her display.
“My urban art and nature portrayals will, of course, be included,” she says. “But there will also be some works that might surprise my core fan base.”
Surprise and creativity are appreciated at RAW events. Attendants can expect to experience the work of all selected artists—from a gallery to a fashion show to a performing arts segment.
“Christina has a great understanding of color depth and composition; this might be due to the fact that she grew up with a dark room in her home, says Laurel Erilane, RAW’s Showcase Director. “She has a very classical style of image making that is often lost with the digital age, and I am very much looking forward to her display.”
The AWAKENING event is a 21-and-over, ticketed event, and attendees are required to wear cocktail attire.
